Rep. K.C. Tomlinson makes indefensible vote against eliminating school lunch debt for Pennsylvania children.
HARRISBURG, PA, July 2, 2024 – Republican State Representative K.C. Tomlinson voted on Monday against a common-sense bipartisan bill in the State House to eliminate school lunch debt in Pennsylvania.
Democratic-sponsored House Bill 2180 would establish a School Meal Debt Fund of $80 million to assist public schools with discharging school meal debt. This compassionate bill would eliminate school lunch debt shaming for low-income children and promote better educational standards by ensuring children don’t go hungry at school.
Rep. K.C. Tomlinson joined other MAGA Republicans by voting against free lunch for children in need, a heartless vote that will hit hardest the most impoverished student populations. There is no justification for a “No” vote when it comes to feeding our children.
Democratic challenger Anand Patel’s background as a father, passionate public advocate and the sole Democrat on the Bensalem School Board in 2015 ensures he will vote in the best interest of Pennsylvania’s youth.
A strong Democratic majority in the State House is vital to guarantee Democratic legislation makes it past Republican opposition. Once elected, Patel will vote in line with other House Democrats in support of compassionate legislation like HB 2180.
