Here’s a glimpse of some of the women running for office this year, many for the first time.
An unprecedented number of women are running in the 2018 election cycle. Since the 2016 election, more than 34,000 women have contacted the advocacy group Emily’s List, which supports a progressive political agenda.
Of the nearly 100 candidates who have entered Congressional races in Pennsylvania, 23 are women. In the Democratic side, 98 women are registered to run for the state House and 13 have filed to run for the state Senate. On the Republican side, 47 women are running in legislative races; one in a congressional race. Women are also running in the gubernatorial and lieutenant governor race.
The candidates featured in this list represent only a sample of the dozens of new faces running in the 2018 primary. It is not a comprehensive list of all candidates running.
