For Frank Burns, hard work pays off
March 29, 2010
Freshman Rep. Frank Burns is off to a strong start representing the people of the 72nd State House District in Cambria and Somerset counties. After just 15 months in office, Frank has already played a key role in defeating a proposal to tax VFWs, sponsored key reform legislation to make state government more transparent, and set a new standard for constituent services by having one of the best records of helping constituents at his district offices.
“I’m here to do what’s right and what’s best for my district,” Frank says. “My dad always taught me that hard work pays off. I hope people have noticed how much work we’ve done to help at the district office.” So far, Frank’s district offices have responded to more than 7,000 constituent requests, providing more constituent aid than almost any other lawmaker.
Frank plans to keep his momentum going by focusing on “bold steps” that would make state government more efficient and reform the way Harrisburg works. Among the many bipartisan bills Frank is supporting are proposals to create an online database of all government expenditures; provide scholarships to
volunteer firefighters, ambulance workers and rescue-squad members; and require welfare recipients to pass drug tests and be U.S. citizens.
A lifelong resident of Cambria County and graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Frank served as a township supervisor for East Taylor Township and an elected member of the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee before being elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Along with his involvement in local politics, Frank worked as a business consultant.
