Rep. Brendan Boyle

District 170

Biography

The son of an Irish immigrant, Brendan Boyle was born and raised in the city of Philadelphia. He attended Cardinal Dougherty High School and became the first in his family to go to college when he won an academic scholarship to attend the University of Notre Dame.

While a student at Notre Dame, Brendan majored in government and was selected for the Hesburgh Program in Public Service. A passionate sports fan, he was also a sportscaster on 640 WVFI-AM in South Bend, Indiana. For three years, he broadcasted Notre Dame football and basketball games.

Brendan went on to attend graduate school at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. While at Harvard, he studied public policy under leading academics, former congressmen, and world leaders. He graduated from Harvard with a master’s degree in public policy.

Prior to running for office, Brendan served as a consultant to various agencies within the Department of Defense, including the Military Sealift Command and Naval Sea Systems Command. In 2008, he won a landslide victory and became the State Representative for the 170th Legislative District, a seat never held before by a Democrat. The Philadelphia Daily News recognized Brendan’s early promise as a lawmaker, naming him one of politics' top 10 rising stars in 2008. In April 2010, PoliticsPA named him “Most Likely to Succeed,” stating that “he is a force to watch in Harrisburg for years to come.”
